About Me
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida. I have over 10 years of experience providing counseling and 14 years of experience in the mental health field. After I graduated from college, I worked in a Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program providing case management services and teaching life skills groups to adults with depression, anxiety, bipolar, and/or psychosis. Throughout graduate school I worked at the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Montgomery County, MD (NAMI MC) providing referrals, advocating, and teaching others about mental illness to end the stigma. I completed my graduate school internship at an outpatient mental health clinic mainly working with individuals with depression, bipolar, trauma, and/or psychosis. In graduate school, I received training in expressive therapy where I learned how to incorporate art and sandtray into the process of healing. More recently, I have become interested in play therapy and have been attending trainings to help children express and regulate their emotions. I obtained the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) certification in the fall of 2021.
My Approach
I utilize a Psychodynamic approach to help uncover feelings, and protection mechanisms that no longer serve you, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to recognize negative thought patterns and replace them with more fact-based narratives. I have training in expressive techniques such as art and sandtray therapy which helps reveal underlying feelings and works towards a greater awareness and acceptance of self.
I also focus on helping you identify your values so that you can start to behave and follow through on things that bring you fulfillment. This is considered an Acceptance and Commitment Therapeutic (ACT) approach. This helps build self-worth which helps combat negative self-talk.
In our sessions, you can expect a relaxed and comfortable environment. This helps ease nervousness and allows us to form a trusting relationship.
